Being a student is hard.
It is especially hard during the first year of university when you’re the new kid on the block, busy with classes, and trying to manage money.
To help make the transition a little easier, here is a list of student discounts to make the most out of student life in 2025.
Entertainment

Being a student is not all work and no play. Here are some options for spending time with mates outside the classroom.
Full-time students can also save on entry to and memberships for Melbourne Zoo and other zoos in Victoria.
General entry to Melbourne Museum is free for students and concession card holders. Special exhibitions are sometimes ticketed, but general entry includes all permanent and some temporary exhibitions. Students can also get a membership to Museums Victoria for $20 less than the standard adult membership.
General entry to Scienceworks is also free for students, and other discounts are available for special exhibitions and events.
Transport
Getting around on public transport can add up quickly, but luckily there are a couple of ways to save when travelling to and from campus.
The RMIT University city campus is located one stop outside the Free Tram Zone. Trips fully within the free tram zone don’t require you to tap on your Myki, so getting off at Melbourne Central can save you in the long run.
If you’re travelling for uni or work and enrolled full-time in study, you’re also eligible for a student concession Myki card. More information on the student concession card and details on how to download your form can be found on RMIT’s official website here.
Subscriptions and technology

There are a range of offers students can use to save on technology and subscription services.
RMIT University provides free software to support students’ studies. Find the full list of free software here.
Optus’ Student Hub has discounts and deals for mobile data, phone plans and Wi-Fi.
For international students, Vodafone has plans that offer unlimited standard calls to 37 listed countries, including: India, China and New Zealand.
Spotify’s Premium for Students offers uni students ad-free music and all the premium features for half the price.
The Apple Education Store provides students with discounts on Apple Music subscriptions, MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, accessories and other technology.
Similarly, the Lenovo Education Store and the Microsoft Education Store both offer discounts on products ranging from PCs to laptops and accessories.
Studying and learning

Naarm (Melbourne) has a few libraries that students can join to reap the study benefits.
For access to online and in-person resources around the city, check out RMIT’s library on campus, the State Library of Victoria located opposite Melbourne Central and the libraries provided by the City of Melbourne.
Each library has slightly different offerings, but generally offers free study support, librarian services, meeting and study rooms, Makerspaces, physical and online items for loan and Wi-Fi.
Other discounts

Getting a student card is one way to receive discounts in stores across the city. Check out how to get or replace a student card through RMIT here.
Melbourne Central’s Student Hub is a one-stop shop for discounts and deals available to students within the shopping centre. Offers range from food and drink to clothing and accessories.

RMIT support

RMIT University also provides other resources to help everyone get the most out of their study and student life.
The student-led RMIT University Student Union, RUSU, offers opportunities to make friends, attend events and obtain support, such as ensuring all members are eligible to grab free food throughout. The yearly RUSU membership fee is $12. RUSU Members also receive 10% off meals at the Realfoods cafes located on campus.
For careers assistance and advice, students can contact Career Connect on campus or online.
For general study and support, RMIT Connect is a one-stop-shop to get questions answered.
RMIT also offers a range of opportunities to get involved in societies, clubs and events outside of the classroom. A comprehensive guide to RMIT student life offerings can be found here.
